Baby movement is one way to tell how well your baby is doing. For observation of baby movement, please to do the following:
- Lie down on your left side.
- Place hands on your abdomen, over the largest part, where you feel that your baby has moved.
- Count 10 fetal movements. Once the baby has moved 10 times, you have finished.
Notify your health care provider if:
- You do not feel your baby move at least 10 times in a 120 minute period.
- You sense any change in the type or character of your baby’s movements.
Helpful Hints
- Do your baby movement counting when your baby moves the most: babies are usually more active after meals.
- Your baby sleeps on an average of 30 to 40 minutes at a time. At times, you may have to wait until the baby wakes up on its own!
- Try to lie down in a quiet place when you do counting.
Remember:
It is very important for your baby to move every day! If at any time you detect a decrease in baby’s movement, notify your health care provider immediately.
